When I was young, and the other kids were playing school, I played office. I would sit at my little desk with a bunch of scrap paper and an old rubber stamp and pretend to talk on the phone. Yep, office geek.
My professional office journey started as an order processing clerk, where I learned the significance of documenting processes. From there, I transitioned to customer service roles and gained my love of working directly with clients. Then on to executive assistant, office manager, and finally, operations manager. Over the years, I have continued to learn and grow and have a diverse background in both sales and service-based industries.
My 40+ years in the workforce, 20 of them in management roles, have prepared me for almost anything.
Like many, my path led me to virtual work in 2020.
Working remotely required a whole new skill set, and I found that my “organizational wizard” skills and self-reliant can-do attitude are exactly what’s needed to thrive in our digital world.
And I must confess, one of the best perks about working from home is the view of our woods from my office window and the having my five crazy cats as office mates.
I love volunteering and helping others. My favorite causes are Food Insecurity and Animal Rites. My husband and I started the Nelson Garrettsville Community Cupboard, the food bank in our town. I also volunteer at our local Animal Protective League as a cat cuddler, dog walker, and fundraiser. I love volunteering so much that I even took a volunteer vacation last year to Best Friends Animal Society in Utah!
I have always been in love with all things furry and fluffy! I have had so many wonderful pets throughout my life, and each one of them took a small piece of my heart when they crossed the Rainbow Bridge. My husband Michael and I live with four crazy cats and one sweet (but sometimes cranky) old dog. “The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way it’s animals are treated. ~Mahatma Gandhi”
If there is a “make and take” craft class – I am there! I have tried everything over the years, from jewelry making to painting, quilting, woodworking, and mixed media arts. And here’s the plain truth – I am not very good at any of it! However, I recently taught myself to knit on the round loom and have just started weaving. My projects have turned out pretty good so far. Perhaps there is hope for me yet.
What began as an idea to make some applesauce with fruit from my neighbor’s orchard has turned into a real passion. I live in a rural area and have access to a lot of fresh produce, so I love to try all sorts of fun canning recipes. My specialties are Peach Cobbler Jam, Salsa, Spicy Hot Peppers, Bread & Butter Pickles, Corn Relish, and Cranberry Applesauce. (Hit me up for the recipes – I am happy to share!)
